ROBERT “BOB” FIERRO
Bob Fierro joined the Center for a Just Society Board of Directors in 2005. He is the son of a career soldier and a distinguished graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was commissioned in the Army Corps of Engineers and served on active duty for five years. His final assignment was with the Army Engineer District, Far East in Seoul, Korea for which he received the Meritorious Service Medal.
After returning to the United States, Bob and his wife settled in Tampa, Florida where Bob went to work as the Director of the Sanitation Department for then-Mayor Bob Martinez. Bob later joined Martinez’s successful gubernatorial campaign and moved to Tallahassee, the state capitol, to serve as the Executive Director of all inauguration activities, and later as the Inspector General of the newly established Florida Lottery.
Bob left state government in 1991 and established a consulting practice specializing in public procurement and contracting, before agreeing to serve as the Campaign Manager for Ken Connor’s gubernatorial campaign in 1994. Following the campaign he returned to public service where he served as the senior contracting official for the state department of human services for the next ten years. In that capacity Bob had responsibility for overseeing thousands of contracts that provided a wide variety of health and human services. He was regularly consulted by the legislature and governor’s office regarding public contracting, especially on matters relating to ethics and integrity. Bob left public service in 2005 and has devoted much of his time to civic and charitable works since his departure.
In addition to his service on the CJS Board, Bob is the treasurer of the Board of the Pregnancy Help and Information Center, a faith based crisis pregnancy and pregnancy resource center in Tallahassee, where he was instrumental in helping the center expand its operations. Today the PHI Center serves 1,000 clients annually and has received accolades throughout the Tallahassee community for its innovative and effective service delivery. Bob is also the Vice President of the West Point Society of Tallahassee and has been active on several local and state political campaigns.
Bob and his wife of 31 years continue to live in Tallahassee.
