Let the winds of change blow on…

A Cato op-ed suggests that the Tea Partiers resist the GOP’s efforts to co-opt/usurp/absorb their identity, arguing that the very thing that makes the Tea Party movement unique, effective, and good for America is its “otherness.”  It is truly a grassroots, outsider movement, and needs to stay that way.  We need more of this kind of association in America.  We are in a sorry state when any kind of political/social activity requires registration as a political action committee or the joining of the establishment party bandwagon.

Hat tip to Zac for blogging on the same article.  To his point, I would agree that if the GOP can adopt the discipline and commitment to clarify a discernible identity, and if that identity just so happens to coincide with the principles espoused by the Tea Partiers (as it should), then by all means, let the reform begin!

If not, then I say let the winds of change blow the crusty old Elephants in Washington down the river to make way for a party that our Founders might be proud to call their own.
